The advance carried hogs a full cent a pound higher (than the extreme top last March ! when the government established price ceiling's on primary pork cuts. Packers admit losses on pork they are now handling but the market movement of hogs has ' not been sufficient to meet demands de-mands for home consumption, military needs and shipments abroad. It is expected that the huge spring pig crop will 6oon start moving to market and buyers buy-ers are expecting ito make their i purchases on a basis more nearly in line with wholesale and retail prices permitted Iby government price ceilings. i The largest slaughter supply of hog in all history is expected to move to market this fall and winder, and when this movement I gets under way, it is believed that supplies of pork and lard will meet ! all demands within price limitations limita-tions afforded by OMP orders. j The cattle market continues on a firm basis with receipts not sufficient suf-ficient to meet trade demands, despite de-spite the faort that slaughter figures record a substantial increase in-crease over a year ago in the Los 1 Angeles area. I Good steers are selling alt !$12.75 to $13.65, short-fed steers $11.75 to $12.50, Mexican-type- slteers $9.75 to $11. A new high top for the year was made when 1300-pound 1300-pound cows scored $11 a cwt. The bulk of common and medium range sell at $8.75 to $9.75, with a good many well-covered cows up to $10 and $10.50. Fleshy dairy cows 1 are quoted at $8 to $9.25, some : bringing up to $9.50. Bulls are ' selling mainly at $9.75 (to $11, a few hp to $11.25 and $11.50. Native Na-tive vealers are in active demand !Na't $14 to $15, choice up to $15.50. Receipts of fat lambs are rather light and good and choice, full-wooled full-wooled lambs are quoted at $14 to i$14.50, common a ri d medium shorn lambs mainly at $10.25 to $11; cull to good ewes ot $3 to $5.75. i |
