Show Mrs. Roosevelt Is To Dedicate Unit At V.F.W. Home t Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Roose-velt will, on Sunday, April 23, at Eaton Rapids, Michigan, dedicate the new $75,000 Community center at the V. F. W. National home for orphans of war veterans, according ac-cording to an announcement from the national headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Mrs. Roosevelt will be the principal prin-cipal speaker on the program that will also include addresses by Commander-in-Onef Eugene I. Van Antwerp, Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Anna Mae Lochner, National Auxiliary president; and Captain Robert G. Woodside, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, president of the board of trustees of the V. F. W. National home. The new structure will provide gymnasium and recreational facilities faci-lities for approximately 200 orphans or-phans of war veterans. Funds for this building were provided by the Ladies' Auxiliary which also constructed con-structed a $35,000 hospital for this child welfare undertaking. Unique among philanthropic projects pro-jects of the country, the V. F. W. National Home is a community of individual homes, in addition to the hospital and the new community commun-ity center. Without cost, the children chil-dren are provided with food, shelter, clothing and education in the public schools of Eaton Rapids until they reach the age of self-sustenance. self-sustenance. The V. F. W. National Home, founded in 1925, represents an investment in-vestment of nearly one million dollars. It is maintained largely through the voluntary contribu-: tions of the individual memlbers of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and its Ladles' Auxiliary, represented throughout the country in 6500 local units. The dedication ceremonies on April 23 will serve also to launch the 1939 nationwide distribution of Buddy poppies which will be offered offer-ed to the public' by the V. F. W. and its Ladies' Auxiliary prior to Memorial day. One penny from each Buddy poppy sold is devoted to the maintenance of the V. F. W. National Home. 1T |
