Bingham informed them that I he was in Seattle, Washington and ; had been promoted to seaman first . class. He was assigned to a ship some two weeks ago and is very happy with his work. Sergeant Allen Bingham, United States marine corps, left Friday of last week for San Diego, follow-I follow-I mg a 30-day furlough spent with ! home folks. In the service now for i more than three and a half years, I Sergeant Bingham, a telephone ! technician, had spent 21 months in l the Pacific 18 on Midway island prior to his recent 30-day furlough. It is likely he will be located lo-cated at San Diego for awhile at least. , Stanley B. Lewis, seaman second ! class, surprised home folks with j his arrival home on an unexpected : furlough. He is with Uncle Sam's ! newest fighting unit, the Seabees (navy construction battalion.) He I took his iboot training at Norfolk, Virginia and advanced training at Williamsburg. He has crossed the United States twice in the last four months but Utah still looks i good to him. He left Friday of j last week, his destination being ' San Francisco, thus being able to ' accompany Sergeant Allen Bingham Bing-ham as far t Barstow. j Bill Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. iJ. C. Smith, who is in training at the naval training station at Far-raguti Far-raguti Idaho, is- home for a short furlough his first visit home since he enlisted several months ago. He is looking and feeling fine. Doug Kirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Kirk, likewise was given a furlough, but stopped off in Salt Lake City for a visit with his mother, who is undergoing medical treatment. Marvin 0. Horton, who has been in training at the B. A. C. in Cedar City for two months as an ! army aviation student, has been i transferred to the air base at Santa Ana, California, where he 1 will be classified for training aj an aviation cadet. Though the j academic course is supposed to i continue for five ' months under j the new plan, Marvin was one of a class of a hundred, largely i former college students, who were , sent to classification center, three months short of the usual period. . - j Mrs. Thomas Beard had Mo-j thers' day wires from her twin i sons, both of whom are in the ; services. Merritt, now a sergeant j in the army medical corps though ! in the service, only a few months-stated months-stated that he hoped to get a furlough fur-lough "after the next trip," but didn't indicate where he was or what he was doing. Marion, seaman sea-man second class on one of Uncle Sam's fighting ships in the Atlantic, At-lantic, . sent his message from Brooklyn, N. Y.
