Show 10 f. f 4 o of SENIOR CLASS DAY A Tuesday night at a eight o'clock the Laboratory Building was crowded with friends and relatives of the College ates Curiosity was depicted on every face as it looked towards the stage The decorations of the latter were in black and orange the color of the Senior Class At one side was a small opening above which on a large card were the words Committee on Graduation and beneath the opening was the word Thesis At about thirty eight Mr Porter in College cap and gown put his head in the opening and then with comparative ease pushed his whole body through on to the stage He was followed by Esther Nelson in like costume who found a little more trouble in en en- en Then came Mr Rigby Mrs Little and Grace Nelson the squeezing squeezing squeezing little ing through process getting a harder every time There was a pause then Mr Cannons Cannon's head was seen peeping peeping peeping peep peep- r ing through However when his eyes fell upon Committee on Graduation his head instantly disappeared In a moment it re-appeared re but seeing he again Finally Thesis was gone entered the stage by creeping on the floor underneath the II Thesis sign Mr Lewis entered in like manner receiving much applause from the the students who had passed the dreadful II Committee on Graduation with less trouble The graduates all congratulated each other and then remarked that they had lost their identity and began to hunt about the stage for it singing a dirge to the tune of II Oh dear what can the matter mattery y be The audience knew it was the tune of II Oh Oh dear what can the matter be by the similarity in words and by meter The song being ended the graduates in looking for their identity found a great variety of objects as the identities of others and so brought in many II hits at professors and students H Here ere are a few samples samples- Mr Cannon suddenly exclaimed II Ive I've Iver r got it Ive I've got it II Where II Here holding up his empty hand Why that's nothing Its the Juniors he lie replied r Mr Rigby found two spoons They all gathered around him in excitement II Theres There's writing on them he exclaimed II P r P r i he spelled from the handle of the spoon But I cant can't read the ther r other M M g a g suggested somebody No 51 B II Then 11 th that a t Isn isn't t P r P-r-i- r l r i of sal said d somebody else Try fry f ry B r k r a a arNo r k k No that wont won't do for this one drie one isn't N NelIs N-e-l- N e 1 II Is Is it R i h but its it's its R R. R II Look close II R y R-e-y- y e e y n o n s o d s spelled Mr r. r Rigby from one spoon so M M-a-b-e-l M a a b e e 1 I Ia spelled Mr Lewis from the other one One of the most effective scenes was j j the burning of the College Women in a apan apan apan pan of red-light red while the Seniors sat around and sang a song to the tune of II Hot Time The tune was determined in the same way as the other one was Another effective scene was when Mr Lewis was sent to get the Janitor The trembling graduates gathered around the still more trembling messenger and pumped courage into him with bicycle- bicycle pumps until he lie stu stuck k out like the fat boy in the side While he was gone Mr Rigby had a moment of suspense and hanged himself at the mere thought of the Janitors Janitor's coming The exercises may not have been very enlightening but they certainly were very enjoyable for people who have a spark of wit in their natures and who believe that II a a little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men At the end of the II identity hunt Mr Porter br brought forward the class identity some twenty books to be given to the University Library After the Seniors had ended their exercises exe exercises ex- ex e the Freshmen spent about a hal half an hour in making a few piteous attempts to be witty The books presented were II Lorna j Doone Profitable Tales II With Trumpet Trumpet Trum- Trum pet and Drum Western Verses A Night With Uncle Remus Head Wilson II A A Connecticut Yankee j j Love Songs of Childhood II Rupert o 0 Quo Vadis Ben Hur Hurl Pipes o 0 Pan II Prisoner of Zenda Departmental Ditties Room Barrack Ballads II Hugh Wynne II Aftermath h Van Bibber The Fair God Songs and Other Verses liKen Kentucky tUCKY Cardinal Cardinal Cardinal Cardi Cardi- nal and II Green Fields and Running Brooks |
