Show M.H.S.TigersTake 1 First League Game From Delta Boys The Milford Tigers got off to a nice start in the Beaver-Millard basketball league race Friday night when they defeated the strong Delta team by a score of 29-26, after leading all the way after the first quarter. There was a good crowd present, considering the fact that league play for this year was not assured until a short time ago. But the results were not the less pleasing to local fans, for the Delta Rabbits have had the Tigers stymied more often than not in league contests over a long period of time. Gerald "Zeke" Hickman made a couple of slick shots in the early part of the first quarter to keep the home team in the going, but even these, with a nice field goal by M. L. "Alabama" Buntin, couldnlt keep Delta from leading, 8-6, at the quarter, the visitors having made three field goals and perfect conversions of two free shots before the whistle sounded the end of the quarter. Hickman tied up the score soon after the second quarter commenced but the visitors retaliated and for a few minutes it was a see-saw affair but only for a few minutes. The local boys did some remarkable playing at this stage and were in the lead, 17-11, at one point, the half ending with Milford on the long end of a 17-14 score. With Buntin scoring two phenomenal phe-nomenal shots "in the third quarter, quar-ter, plus Milford boys' three conversions con-versions of as many free throws, the Tigers built up a 7-point lead for a 24-17 score at the end of the third quarter. Coach Del Moine Christensen did considerable experimenting ex-perimenting in the way of substitutions substi-tutions in the final period and the visitors took advantage and did a bit of spurting, throwing a scare into local fans when Milford's margin narrowed to two points. But that was the whole story for the Delta team, the final score being be-ing 29-26. Milford goes to Fillmore for a tussle with the Millard county high school quintet this Friday while Delta and Hinckley fight.it out at Delta. The big test of comparative com-parative strength in the league comes on Friday, January 22, when the Beaver team comes to Milford for a critical contest. The Beavers had 3 rest last week after winning a 40-25 contest over Millard Mil-lard at Beaver in the league vplay opener, and will be plenty bloodthirsty blood-thirsty ((if Beavers ever get that way) by the time they get down to Milford.
