Show HERE seems to be an entirely erroneous idea prevailing among some of the students in regard to examinations examinations examinations ex ex- held in required studies especially especially especially es es- where a watch is kept during the time of conducting the quiz Because they are not put upon their honor and the study is distasteful to them they seem to think that they are relieved from studying and justified in using dIshonorable dishonorable dishonorable dishonor dIshonor- able means in order to pass They not only do not hesitate to say openly that they cheated but even defend their action They say that they are obliged to take studies impossible for them to learn At first they tried but soon despairing gave up trying and decided to get through by cheating in examinations One or two have even gone so far as to quote professors in in defense of their action The attitude taken by these few students students students stu stu- dents in endeavoring to justify an act that they know to be wrong is full of danger Much easier to meet are those instances where students try to cheat without being found out for these feel their own dishonesty by trying to conceal conceal conceal con con- ceal their act If discovered they offer 1 no excuse but hang their heads conscious conscious conscious con con- of the scorn of their fellow- fellow i students This is not so with the others They frankly condemn cheating but say it was the only thing possible under the circumstances They bewail the ne necessity necessity es- es sity for it By this confession they seem to themselves in their own eyes and in the eyes of many students students students stu stu- dents who would otherwise condemn them Moreover their quotation of professors in defense of their action carries weight A student declaring to a professor his bis intention of cheating heating and receiving no rebuke will go to the examination feeling feeling feeling feel feel- ing that he has the san sanction tion of a responsible responsible responsible sible person in the course he is about to pursue The professor is to blame that this is so To be sure no right thinking student student student stu stu- dent believes that any member of the faculty approves of cheating This would be absurd The misunderstanding probably probably probably pro pro- bably arises from the fact that he has not condemned the practice in terms sufficiently strong We believe that the most of our students are honest and upright but we cannot close our eyes longer to the fact that some are not So far too much leniency y has been been shown both by students students students stu stu- dents and instructors toward that class r I of people It is time now that we take r action and create so strong a sentiment against them that dishonest practices will no longer be countenanced in the classroom J po |
