Show Burbank CCC Notes With the arrival at Camp Burbank Bur-bank of Lieutenant Donald D. Dodd, interest in leather work has shown a sudden revival. About a j year ago there was quite an interest inter-est in the manufacture of moccasins, mocca-sins, but the interest died out with a change cf personnel. When Lieutenant Dodd arrived the educational adviser, Mr. Thompson, had just called for a meeting of those interested, for he had discovered one or two with talent tal-ent among the new men. Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Dodd was quick to offer his suggestions, for he had had a keen interest in this handicraft. As a result, sufficient tools and equipment equip-ment have been purchased to permit per-mit this work to begin with projects pro-jects in (bill-folds, belts, moccasins, knife-sheathes and many others. With this addition the educational education-al program adds what it has not previously had for some time a group in handicraft. Our popular canteen or camp store steward, Ernest W. Barn-hart, Barn-hart, of Company 1508 at Camp Burbank, last month set a new record re-cord for sales in the camp store at a figure in excess of $1300. Admittedly, Ad-mittedly, much of this success is due to the fact that the camp is distant from towns of any size and much of the merchandise does not compete with such stores as are in the neighborhood of the camp. However, the increased sales are mainly due to the care with which merchandise is bought and served. |
