Show U. P. Warehouse Addition Underway Work has begun on a 42-foot extension ex-tension of the local Union Pacific freight warehouse, to be used by the San Diego Fruit and Produce company com-pany in grading and packing the late summer crop of pod peas, which is expected this year to far surpass in both quantity and quality last years initial crop, raised in the South Mil-ford Mil-ford pumping district. The new structure will be 42 feet by 30 feet in size and will become a permanent part of the warehouse proper, the south end of the present building being torn out. Beyond the new addition ad-dition 20 feet of additional platform space will be provided along with a ramp for easy access. The work is scheduled for completion by August 15 and will represent an investment on the part of the railroad of $1500 or more. The new construction is being handled by a force of eight railroad carpenters under the direction of John Diekerson of American Fork . Virtually Vir-tually all the members of the gang have been with the company for a long period of time. Plans for the building call for the installation of electric wiring and fixtures to facilitate facili-tate night work when necessary and also motor driven ice-crushing and conveyor equipment. j Picking of peas had been scheduled sche-duled to begin August 20 but, with the intensive growing weather that we have had the past month, harvesting harvest-ing time has been advanced several days and it is thought that operations opera-tions will begin before that time. It js expected that picking operations will offer employment to 200 or more while hauling, grading and packing will further augment the force to be used from the beginning of the picking pick-ing season and lasting until frost writes finis to this years operations. |
