Fifteen years ago this week j Sam Cline, who had been doing government work in the war risk insurance in-surance bureau at Angel Island, California, Cali-fornia, had returned home. . Mrs. Charlie Smith had received a telegram announcing the safe arrival from overseas of her son, Kent Smith, of the 348th field artillery. He was expected to return to Milford as scon as he was mustered out at Camp Funston. Olive Johnson was the guest of honor at a surprise party given at the home of Miss Lillian Stoker. Those present had been June and Druce Carter, Alice Larson, Lillian Stoker, Olive Barbara and Dick Johnson. The Methodist Aid society had met at the home of Mrs. R. G. Siewert and Mrs. Joe Tribole had been elected elect-ed president to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs. Frank Robinson. Everett Bryans had entertained a 'r group of friends for a couple of hours in the afternoon, those present being Helen Ward, Selena and Violet Isaacs, Mary Vincent, Ora Edwards, Gertrude Martin, Howard Tanner, Clark Lee, Ted Wheat, Vance Clinton Clin-ton and Chester Gleeson. Barton and McGarry of Beaver had purchased a section of land about five miles southeast of Milford and near the railroad, the purchase having been made through -the efforts ef-forts of C. C. Sloan. Wilson Moore and Miss Laurie Skinner had been married at the bride's home in Beaver, Sam White, an uncle of the bride having performed per-formed the ceremony, with only the immediate relatives of the contracting- parties present. Mrs. Moore, although al-though a Beaver girl, had spent much of her time the preceding year in Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tribole had-entertained had-entertained Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Moore and Mrs. Jennie Moore at dinnet. Miss Phoisa Humphries has given a, dinner at the home of her uncle, J. B. Duncan, in honor of Mrs. Duncan's Dun-can's birthday. The guests had beer Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Arrington, Mrs. j Elmer and Misses Juanita Miller, Elva Burns and Cuma Bond, s ! The following had been eligible for places on the high school honor roll: ' Ilean Hanks, Maxine Bradsley, Howard How-ard Gospill, Mayme Schow, Cuma Bond, Elva Burns, Merl? Pitchforth, Delia Cottrell, Lou Estelle Hicks Letha Schow, Laurel Burns, Leono James, Haulton Hickjs, Lelo Wellis and Clinton Bond. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Haskell anc baby had arrived and were trying tc find the almost impossible a house to rent. Haskell and his machinist, Mr. Gray, were out making an in-vestigation in-vestigation of underground water i conditions to determine the best kind . of well rig to use. Joseph R. Murdock had come down from Beaver to meet his son Waldo, . who had been in Cuba with the . marines. Charles E. Beard was advertising Rhode Island Red cockerels for $1.50 ' each, while J. M. Williams was ad- vertising hatching eggs for sale. Mr. and Mss. C. C. Sloan had been up to Beaver, the former to attend I commissioners meeting and the latter i to call on her many friends and at- tend to some legal business. |
