Show CEDAR LEGION BANS EMPLOYMENT OF MARRIED WOMEN (Fom Parowan Times) Employment of married women in Cedar City whose husbands are able to support them, was attacked by the American Legion members of Post No. 74, in a meeting of the organization organiza-tion Wednesday night as one of the causes of unemployment and distress at present. They ordered a resolution drawn up, calling on other civic organizations organiza-tions of the community and the public pub-lic generally to support them in their drive to put married women in their homes and give their jobs to members mem-bers of unemployed f amilies during the present crisis. As an organization they propose to resort to a boycott against places of business employing married women whose husbands are able to support them after February , 20, and to do everything possible to defeat any candidate for public office in Iron County who gives preference to married women. It has come to their attention, the resolution says, that heads of families famil-ies are being discharged while married mar-ried women who do not have to work are being retained. A final paragraph para-graph of the document reads: "The American' Legion does not wish to boycott any place of business or attempt at-tempt to defeat any candidate for public office, but its members will go to any extent for the relief of the unemployed un-employed from the embarrassment of charity or suffering from cold and hunger. We ask your support." |
