Show ZION LODGE TO OPEN MAY 15 Zion National Park, Utah, April 31 With a total of 295 visitors entering en-tering Zion National Park the past week-end, the record breaking tide of motor travel which is expected to visit the Southern Utah wonderlands this season is already starting its summer flow, according to E. T. Scoyen, superintendent, Zion-Bryce Canyon National Parks. Travel to the park during the past winter fell below the expected number, num-ber, according to the superintendent. The total travel to date for the 1929 season, -is 4103 people, a loss over last year's figure of about 15 per cent. However, the unusually severe winter conditions along the northern transcontinental highways, which has resulted in the normal cross-country travel using these routes, either going go-ing south or giving up travel altogether, alto-gether, explains the slack travel of the past winter. However, the daily travel reports of the park for the past few weeks show a steady increase in-crease in motor travel. The only facilities open at present are the public camp grounds. Zion Lodge will start operations on May 15th and Bryce Canyon Lodge on May 25th. Regular) transportation facilities for rail passengers will not be available until June 1st, although special parties will tour the parks starting May 26th. Roads to both Zion and Bryce are in excellent condition, but Cedar Breaks and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon are still buried deep under the snows of the past winter. |
