Show VETERAN WRITES HISTORY OF UTAH IN EARLY DAYS Hyrum Lanson Colby of Delta, 81, a veteran of the Black Hawk war, has just completed writing his autobiography, auto-biography, a manuscript of some jlOOO words, in which he relates the important events in his life from the time he was 5 years old to the present. pre-sent. He gives particular attention to the Black Hawk war and the part he played in that struggle. He recounts at length the services he rendered in the building of the fort at Deseret in 18G6 and the surrender sur-render of Chief Black Hawk at Social hall in Holden, where the Indian leader spoke for about an hour with the aid of an interpreter, reciting the cause of the war. Other portions of his history are devoted to the early life in Utah and incidents connected with the founding and building up of the towns of Fillmore, Fill-more, Holden, Meodow, Kanosh and Deseret. He a'so pictures instances of hardships and recreations of the early settlers. He makes reference to many of the old-timers in various parts of Millard and Sevier counties with whom he came in personal contact con-tact in early life and relates numerous numer-ous interesting local events in which they participated. |
