Show Ideal School coo System Advocates voca es Specialization azo eon If a student doesn't know what he lie wants to study after ho he has finished two years of coll college ge he probably probably probably ably never will It is upon this assumption that we wet t wish to describe what we think would be an ideal I t school system at the University I i Because of the age at which our city schools i send students up to us we feel that the Lower Divi i sion lion should rc remain nain substantially as s it is now now I It fills a well recognized need of rounding out and giving 1 m background to more advanced study it Our upper division should be put on an honor honorl l study plan organized in the following manner 1 Instead of registering for classes these students stu- stu U. U I dents would be assigned to three professors in the Q department in in which they are majoring One professor pros pro pro- s1 s i fessor lessor will have charge of his principle study and the other two will be available for consultation upon related subjects 2 The student would be given a list of books I ii 1 which they should read during the year This list will willbe willbe be adjusted according to the reading that he has al already already al- al J ready done and in such a wa way as to give him development development development develop develop- ment along the lines of most interest and profit to him v 3 There Ther would be no regular classes However students in each department will be organized into discussion groups which will meet meet every week to discuss some topic pertinent to what they are doing 4 Two examinations would be given at the end of each of the two years ears These examinations will willbe willbe willbe be in the form fonn of comprehensive tests given by persons persons per per- sons ons other than the teacher The only marks given 1 would be those obtained during these examinations Such a system would eliminate the constant duplication duplication duplication dup dup- of class work that we now suffer under the waste of time in covering material already learned and nd would enable a student to develop himself to his fullest potentialities Finally the major benefit to be derived would come from the more personal contact with the professors professors professors pro pro- on the campus Much could be gained from better acquaintance lance in this direction direction direction-A.
