J L. L Lytel Lyrel in charge of reclamation projects in this state with reference to the proper appropriation for the project in case the bill 1111 is passed W. W R. R Wallace Vallace chairman of the Utah soldier settlement board has arrived home from Washington where he joined the Utah delegation two weeks weeks weeks' ago to complete Utah's efforts to insure the passage of the bill Mr Wallace also conferred with Secretary Lane and other officials of the Interior department relative to tentative plans for soldier settlement projects that had been considered In Utah He said gratifying assurances were given him by Mr Lane and his assistants that the Utah plans would receive every consideration when the proper time came There is every reason to feel confident confident confident con con- at this time that the soldier settlement bill will pass congress Mr Wallace said Undoubtedly the progress is going to be lie slow and it will be fall before it will be on the statute books But ut the sentiment is swinging in favor of the measure and those who are watching the progress progress progress pro pro- gress of the bill including Congressman Congress Congress- man Mondell and Senator Smoot believe be- be lieve the measure will ill pass We feel sure that in the event it does pass we will receive every consideration from the interior department The following dispatch from Washington dated July 26 tells of the action of the committee I The house public lands committee by a two thirds majority vote authorized authorized authorized au au- au- au Chairman Sinnott of Oregon to report favorably to the house the Mondell Mandell soldier land reclamation bill billIn billIn billin in substantially the form in which it was introduced Several amendment amendment amend amend- ment which do not affect the basic principles of the bill were adopted In view of the fact that the house by the end of next week is to recess for a month or more It has been decided decided de de- decided de- de to make no effort to press the Mondell bill for consideration in the house until ter fter the recess The I public c lands committee conferred with the house steering committee II and it was thought best lo to not at attempt attempt attempt at- at tempt to rush the soldier bill through J JIn In Jn the short time that will be available available avail avail- able next week I When lien the house reconvenes in I September however it has been een J II agreed that early consideration shall be given the Mondell Mandell bill and its friends who for fora time were most apprehensive are arc now confident the bill will pass Western Vestern senators say that if this bill passes the house its adoption b by the senate will be a 1 J.
