Show CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW THORNTON DRUG STORE Marking another step in the progress prog-ress of Delta, the opening of the new store of the Thornton Drug Co. was celebrated in style last Saturday. Satur-day. It Is estimated that 2S00 people peo-ple attended the opening. Over 700 children were given candy and treated treat-ed to a free show at the Delta theatre. thea-tre. The ladles were presented with chocolates and a free dance was held at night in the adjoining store. The Plantation Ramblers furnished music during the day and for the dance. At midnight, the business men of Delta and their companions were banqueted in the drug tore. About fifty people enjoyed the banquet. Postmaster Clark Allred acted as toastmaster and humorously introduced intro-duced the various speakers. Mr. Wm. Thornton first spoke and told of his confidence in Delta and his pleasure in the completion of the new store. Roy H. Billings responded respond-ed In behalf of the city; S. B. Fol-som, Fol-som, representing the Delta Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, Dr. B. H. Smith, Scott Taggert of Delta State Bank and R. L. Wicker of Delta Theatre also addressed the gathering and complimented Mr. Thornton on the completion of the new store. The new store is the largest and best of the Thornton ch ain of stores and shows the confidence Mr. Thornton Thorn-ton has in the future of this community. |
