Show i . .. - - - -: . vh!:im: doi:s it cojie from? Of course no one blames a coal dealer in Delta for high prices of coal since everyone knows he is powerless to set prices. I'.ut we can rightfully lay a .(rood bit of blame at the doors of our lawmakers for permitting mine operators to grab off unheard of profits such as are now being reported. Only last week the Lehigh Le-high & WilUcsbarre Coal Co. declared a dividend of 80 per cent. It made so much money that every stockholder who had a $50 share in the company got a dividend of $40 and he still holds his $50 share. Where did come from it it didn't come out of the pockets of the consumers? The miners didn't get it in wages, and the railroads didn't get in freight. There is something radically radi-cally wrong with a system that permits profits so tremendous as this, and the quicker our lawmakers realize it and set about regulating it the better off the whole country w;l! be. |
