Show POLI-TICKS Ever since the rays of Adam When this queer old world began There've been pesky kinds of insects That have troubled beast and man: There are cow-ticks and goat-ticks And tick's what's found on sheep; There are wood-ticks and dog-ticks And bed-ticks where we sleep. Now these are terrible creatures But there's one that's worse than them: A kind what they call poli-ticks That feeds upon the men. Should poli-ticks once get you You may fight them but in vain, For they burrow through your cranium, And eat upon your brain. They cause a strange delirium; You don't know what you're at: Some say it is republican; Some say it's democrat. Whatever it may be, Forever there it sticks; You'd better heed this warning And beware of poli-ticks. They are worse at certain seasons, Round about election day; Then they drive you into spasm And you don't care what you say. They set you all to raving And you'd eat your Sunday hat . Just because you are republican Or perhaps democrat. Oh 'tis then you fight the neighbors And you throw your stones and bricks. I'll say it's something awful When you have the poli-ticks. When these ugly little creatures Get to gnawing on your brain, Take a drop of common horse sense, It will often ease the pain. Just think how very foolish 'tis To act like dogs and cats 'Cause some are called republicans And others democrats. If America we fight for And we cease a slamming bricks We will rid our fevered systems Of these dreadful poli-ticks. J. Alfred Jacobson. |
