Show THE DELIA FIRE (The following was written in the Delta School, and we an? sure our readers will enjoy it.) We boys were working in the shop when the fire broke out. We all ran to see what it was. We. soon found it was the theater on fire. Smoke poured out of the windowe of the picture show house; fire shot through the roof in a gigantic stream; the balcony in the interior crashed to the floor with a resounding resound-ing roar; men ran into tbe buildings and pulled out. everything available, and stacked it in the street or on trucks to be hauled to safety. In a short time all the goods were out of all tbe stores. When the buildings collapsed, they went down with a roar. The Pool Hall caught fire next after af-ter the theater building. Some one said "Blast the buildings build-ings between and save the Delta Merk and the. Millard Drug!" Snme powder was put in tbe Pool Hall and an endeavor was made to blow it to atoms, but rt only sent the fire oii in greater fury. . Women stood by in ghastly horror. Men and boys worked heroically, but. to no avail. About that time all hands rushed rush-ed to the back as the printing office was endangered. And only by dint of hard wark and constant passing pass-ing pf water was that building saved. . Five of the best buildings in town were burned; thousands of dollars were lost. But good fortune was with us to some extent, as no one was killed and no one .was seriously injured.. Ted Brush, Eighth Grade Student. |
