B Y U U. plans to take the power to choose out of the student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent body's hands and place the selection in a group to consist of faculty members student members and the editors and business business business busi busi- ness managers of the publications This contemplated plan closely resembles that now employed employed employed em em- I at the university except that it is a slight improvement over the arrangement we have Such a plan as suggested by the Provo school is not the correct answer to the problem according to our reasoning an and there are obvious reasons why more serious consideration sho should ld be given to a more effective solution Politics play an important role on this campus In appointments appointments appointments ap ap- ap- ap and elections ns and even in publications there is a constantly flowing under current of student political agitation Our publication heads are appointed by a council of three student and two faculty members Thus the student element is the controlling interest Ve We do not think that thai this is the ideal situation There is isa isa isa a great possibility of unqualified men receiving positions through so-called so political connections or frat fraternal loyalty Ity Our suggested plan for appointment would be as follows No candidate having held one position could qualify for a second No candidate would be considered unless unless' he had worked on the staff since his first quarter at the university Thus those with experience behind them and those most deserving of reWard reward reward re re- re- re ward for their effort would be considered The board would consist of two qualified faculty members members members mem mem- bers with journalistic knowledge the editors and business managers managers managers man man- agers of the four publications who would have the power to vote only in regards to the candidates competing for the publication of which they were the heads and a chairman with the power to vote only in case of a tie This plan would have four persons voting on each position with no element faculty element faculty or student student student-in in control of a majority interest except in case o of f a deadlocked vote |
