A woods i pasture, with a stream of running water, makes a good summer pasture, i Cows will graie during the early ) morning and late In the evening, but r will seek tbe shade and water during the hottest part ot the dsy. i Two quarts of wheat bran given to each cow morning and evening with an armful of some good green forage at noon. In addition to an abundance ' of grass, will be eaten with a relish, and If given regularly will conalder-ably conalder-ably Increase tbe yield and quality of the milk. Owing to the high price of grain many dairymen are feeding dried sugmr beet food. One-half peck j of dried beets, soaked In two gallons of water for a few hoursr will make a thick bucket of rich slop. This . quantity, mixed with one quart of wbeat bran and one quart of corn chops. Is the usual ration for a cow r morning and evening. On this ration I the cow will keep In good healthy condition and give a Urge yield of rich, well-flavored milk. Dried sugar ' beet food II now selling at f2S per ton. It Is a most excellent food for cows, also for hogs and poultry. Some dairymen feed soaked beet rood alone. The cows are pastured day and night, and have two feeds of wilted fodder twice a day. Spray cows with fly repHtant. One half pint will rover IS cows. A good formula Is: Fish oil. thre quarts; coal oil. one quart; rarbollc acid, one ounce. Mis thoroughly This mixture prop erly used will bo a grrat comfort to the cows. |
