W. W S. S members charging election carelessness last week Mr Parmelee's letter follows follows follows fol fol- fol- fol lows Following the primary election last spring and checking over the results I saw that an error had been made in the listing of the election of a faculty member for forthe forthe forthe the Apportionment Board I imme- imme t notified DeMotte Iotte Pomeroy Second Vice-President Vice in charge of elections and asked that he omit f 3 that part of the ballot in the final 4 election because there was no vacancy vacancy vacancy va va- cancy in that office I asked him to take tak it up with ti the Executive Council telling them iE t of the situation and also asked him to notify the two can candidates for the n office However vever this was not done Y ill and the names were listed on the j final ballot After the final election election election elec elec- tion I again asked him and I also i asked Dick Van Winkle Student Body President to notify Dean I Austin of the facts but apparently apparent apparent- ly this was not done I Notified Carlston t This fall when the handbook was being edited I notified Herald S' S n Carlston of the correct listing so that the listing in the handbook was correct Some time before the Apportionment Board met I asked I k Albert Heiner Student Body President President President Pres Pres- ident to not notify y Miss Austin so that there would be no misunderstanding misunderstand misunderstand- ing in regard to the matter r This he attempted to do personally personally personally person person- ally calling at her office a few times but he was unable to talk with her about it it so that as a re result result result re- re sult Miss Austin did attend the meeting and was notified as soon as she came into the meeting i Personally I am very sorry that there was a mistake in the first place and also sorry that I did not personally attend to notifying Miss t. t Austin However I had presumed that the matter had been taken t l' l care of i No Complaint Due In regard to the feeling that the iJ women's organizations did not receive re re- re- re r fair treatment at the hands of the Apportionment Board I 1 would like to state briefly that the Associated Women Students received ii ed more than th they y requested in their heir budget submitted to the i Board and more than was granted last year so that I feel that they have no complaint tos to's to s 's make Thus I feel that the the women's c. c 1 organizations received fair treatment treat treat- i r f ment at the hands of the Apportionment Apportionment i Board Inasmuch as I am amnot amnot not a member of the Apportionment Apportion Apportion- ment board but merely advised 1 1 with them having no vote in the I f apportionments I feel that the Apportionment board is to be commended commended commended com com- mended upon the thoroughness with which it considered the requests requests requests re re- re- re quests and the fairness displayed in reaching I the decisions It is my feeling that no member member mem mem- member ber of the board was representing any particular faction or group but that they were impartial representatives representatives representatives representing all the students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents which is as it should be i |
