Show Unrepresentative Amendments The amendments proposed to the constitution of the A. A S. S U. U U. U which were published in last weeks week's Chronicle and which wh appear again in today's Chronicle warrant editorial comment The constitution committee appointed last fall by student body president Rudolph Larsen has supposedly been studying and making investigations regarding the constitution for the purpose of recommending changes in the student law The proposed amendments are the result of their endeavors Such an important project as amending the constitution of the A. A S. S U. U U. U obviously deserves the time and attention of qualified and informed persons who would be expected to consult all possible sources of suggestions and advice However several factors merit consideration The constitution constitution constitution con con- consist of members committee as a whole does not who have had a variety of experience in student activities and they have had only limited association with the student affairs affected Furthermore it appears that only part of the committee committee committee com com- was active and that consultation was held with only a limited number of those persons who have direct connection with the with the he portions of the constitution to which changes were proposed It seems that it is a rebuke to the intelligence of University University University sity students to have recommendations concerning the basic rules and regulations of student government of the University proposed by a relatively uninformed committee which failed to take into consultation many persons who were better in informed informed informed in- in formed than themselves Recognizing some of these there factors and being opposed to same some of the amendments the Presidents' Presidents Club and the Inter Inter- Inter Inter-I fraternity Council unanimously voted to oppose the proposed changes in the Preside Presidents Presidents' Club and the amendment regarding I publications It is obvious that these amendments are not representative I tive of intelligent student thought |
