Show Servicemen... I It wasn't long before dinner was ! called. 1 knew before I w as invited hat t lie Filipino meal consisted of. so I was sort of prepared for it. I guess I wasn't prepared enough. Eating there reminded me of the Uzarks in Missouri. Before me set a large dinner plate heaped with I dry rice. At the side of that plate was a small salad plate full of shrimps: they still had their hairy legs on. To the side of that were I a small plate of raw oysters, with vinegar all over them. You can see how my appetite must have been. Well folks, I don't care at all for shrimp, I ate the rice and a few oysters. The oysters reminded me of a raw egg. Then 1 ate some fish that was good. Then they had some mangoe. I had never eaten them but have wanted to for some time. They are about the size of an avocado and inside they are the color of an orange. They are sweet and very delicious. I was surprised at their flavor. I didn't think I would like them. We finished the meal and I knew they put on the table all they had and after all what more could one expect. All they have is yours. I got in a little gospel. They enjoyed me telling them about the pioneers coming across and entering Salt Lake valley. val-ley. Also about the Tabernacle and its construction. I left rather early and was glad for the experience of the day. Well I must stop now, wish I could stay longer but my eyes are very heavy. Ten o'clock" is always bed time for me. I should write some more letters tonight but I don't think I will. I just finished one to Marie. The last letter I got from you was written by Bob dated March 19. I do appreciate your letters very much, and I hope I will always al-ways have time to drop you a line and let you know how things are down here. Goodnight to you all and sleep tight. By now you are about eating breakfast or probably getting prepared pre-pared for Sunday school. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow. Say I just about forgot to say that I have met David Bishop from Delta and have had several talks with him. He is stationed sta-tioned over at the hospital here in . Manila. Tell his folks he is lokking fine. I also met Meldon Mcintosh here at church. Also Owen Gard-i Gard-i ner. ; God bless you both and hope to , hear from you soon. Love, you son, 1 Loren. . A letter to Mr. and Mrs. Robert , Robinson.) Dear Mr. Beckwith; Received the Chronicle the other day with the request in it for me , to fill out in order to keep the paper pa-per coming. I am sending it back because by all means I want the paper to keep coming. I'm stuck out here on a ship and haven't any hope of getting home for a long time yet. And the Chronicle Chron-icle is really a pretty good link between be-tween here and home. Well, I'm not much of a hand at writing letters and like to read about the fellows from home in the service, but don't like mine in there. . I don't know how to start a darn letter and it is a sure cinch that I don't know how to end one. Sincerely, D. R. Evans |
