Show Receives Letter Of Commendation Headquarters, Office of First U.S. ARMY, May 9, 1945. To Tech Sgt William A. Simpson, On this day of victory in Europe I want to congratulate you and the fighting III Corps on the contribution contribu-tion you have made to defeat the German Army. From the time you joined the 1st Army on Feb. 13 through its relentless re-lentless drive to the Rhine, the brilliant bridgehead operatioi at Renagon and the reduction of the Ruhr pocket, your record has been an outstanding one. I am proud to forward this commendation com-mendation to the officers and men who have earned it and who made possible the splendid record of their organization in the critical Renagon bridgehead operation and whose untiring efforts contributed effectively to the relative freedom from air attacks. This letter has been received by Mrs. Simpson and also some sou-msf sou-msf venirs and a swastika flag, coins and some interesting pictures taken tak-en during action in France, Belgium Belgi-um and Germany. Bill is now in the 3rd Army and is in Germany as a special guard. He has received receiv-ed the Silver Star and the Bronze Arrowhead. Cecil Billings, RP ljc. went to his new assignment Tuesday at Red-lands, Red-lands, Cal. He was present in the battle of Okinawa, and has been in the South Pacific for 9 months. Lt. David Gardner is in Delia from Monday to Thursday with his parents, M-S E. E. Gardner. Lt. Gardner is stationed at Luke Field, Arizona, where he has been instructing in-structing for the past year. Wayne E. Pratt S 1c is visiting friends-and relaties in Delta while on a 30-day leave from duty as an armed guard on a transport ship in the Pacific theatre. He is the grandson of Mrs. Ephraim Blackburn Black-burn and son of Mrs. Verna Hair of Salt Lake City, and formerly of Delta. . Jack Thomas, who has been in training at San Diego with the Navy, Na-vy, is home on leave. He will return re-turn Saturday and will take up a course in training in radio. He is the son of M-S Charles Thomas of the North Tract. Reed Stewart left Tuesday for Ft. Douglas to join the Navy Reserve. Re-serve. He has been released from Army service in the air corps, and now takes up this branch of activity. activ-ity. , - Cpl. and Mrs. Reed L. Stone, of .iingman. Ariz., spent Sunday and Monday in Delta with M-S Grant , Moulton. He was on a 15-day fur-'.fcjUgh, fur-'.fcjUgh, after which he will report in Oklahoma. 1st Lt. Gordon M. Christensen. husband of Alta J. Christensen Of Provo. is now stationed at Mac Dill Field. Tampa, Florida, where he is receiving combat crew training train-ing as an airplane commander on a B-29 Super-Fortress. MacDill Army Air Field is part of the Third Air Force, which trains heavy bomber crews in the United States. Among the instructors are many officers and enlisted men who have seen action in every theatre the-atre of operations. These veteran; direct crews through ground and flight training which simulates actual ac-tual combat, stressing teamwork, formation flying, high altitude missions mis-sions and other phases of combat training. Captain Freddie Banks is now (. stationed in Camp Walters. Texa:;, where he was when he first enler-ed enler-ed the Army. His wife is visiting her sister in San Francisco, but will join Lt. Banks later. Cameron Adams, USA, returned to his camp in the Northwest this week, after a visit here with his parents, M-S Alex Adams. Cameron said it was his first visit to Delta in 11 years. |
