Show r- r A SEVEN SEVEN-I SEVEN DAY S VE B DAY i 1 BP WITH l I BOY SCOUTS ACROSS ss UTAH A Serial Trip rip For Or the e Boy 0 Scouts Is Forthcoming Will Study tho Best in Utah in a State Cross-State Tour Talks at Campfires Instructors Will Explain The Outstanding Outstanding ing Glyph in Each Area Will ill Be Pictured in Paper t r F In a few weeks I will begin a series of seven articles being an imaginary trip taken with a troup of Boy Scouts imaginary as to this particular trip I j but real otherwise as it is over ground I I have covered many times extending extending extending extend extend- ing from Santa Clara Creek in the southwest corner of Utah up up diagonally diagonally diagonally diago diago- nally across the state winding up In InVernal InVernal inVernal Vernal at the very opposite corner of Utah This trip will take us in to Iron County stay all night at the the Gap at ata a dry camp near Parowan go on the theOld theOld theOld Old Spanish Trail for quite a distance and see a date cut in the rocks of 1831 Millard County and a day here we will stop over night in Clear Creek Canyon I have slept there thirty- thirty three nights on my many trips then motor over to Emery County and see some of the best glyphs in the state we will have a fine ine time there and talk a lot the next night will be on Nine Mile 1 Minnie Maude Cre Creek k in Carbon County We Ve will hold the best for Cor the last The seventh day we will spend near Vernal where the Smithsonian tion says is The best group in the United States We Ve will take a leisurely trip no hurry eat our own cooking talk a lot and make it the best and finest trip the boys have ever had We Ve will drive to a location telling in route all the different things that can be made made- applicable applicable applicable ap ap- ap- ap to that area in Indian lore get into camp in the late afternoon or early evening and around the camp campfire campfire fire ire that night at each tell what we will find next day have a chat talk about things pertaining to the ancient Indian before a white got gothere gothere gothere here and next day send the boys out scurrying to find what we said they should find One day at a location Seven locations The One Most Important Subject Will Be Chosen Out of Many But as there is so much subject matter in all the thousands of Indian we encounter plainly that will be too much Wed We'd never get back home home- Think of being out there in the hills so interested finding things that we wont come back Sowe Sowe So Sowe we will limit much of oC the talk to that ONE THING that MOST l IMPORTANT thing the ancient Indian wanted the thing he prayed for that thing he cut signs of on the rocks that thing he danced for for RAIN As water is important to us so it was to him 1100 years ago and all his activities centered around the need for WATER VATER We Ve wont miss any of that but we will have to let leta a lot of other good things go with just a word or two tossed at em This trip wont be expensive expensive- well we'll take full seven days days days- about a nickel a day The scout masters will help the boys and the lads each night will have to talk about what they found explaining It to the group after the first remarks of the pilot have been heard Each boy will find something and he will be given the floor to ask about it at each campfire I will try to have th the series follow follow follow fol fol- fol- fol low along without a break but space and time and other work are arc my masters and the they wont give in if they really set out to have their own way About four hundred miles miles miles- seven days days days- campfire talks talks talks- instruction at night and daytimes daytimes- and then recitals recitals als before the group roup And every bit bitof bitof bitof of Indian interest we can work in No bedding bedding- no patrol patrol- no peeling peeling peel peel- ing spuds spuds- but lots of hikes hikes- eyes directed to the best over our state and Utah is very rich in Indian Rock Writing Will Discuss More Fully with Leaders the Points Brought Up I Then if an article raises some question question question ques ques- tion I will talk to a leader or a small group in my office of the day under I discussion telling more than I have space for in the paper In that way everything can be brought out in the questions asked |
