Giant Hailstones We all know the man who talks about hailstones as big as your fist but at Potter Texas there fell a hailstone that measured 17 inches in circumference Even this is by no means a record for forthe forthe forthe the biggest measured hailstone was 9 i 93 by 5 51 by 4 43 42 inches Some yarns about hailstones nes take a lot of swallowing but in Africa and India there are arc exceptionally exceptionally exceptionally heavy falls In 1936 the Transvaal was hit by a hailstorm and in half an hour the countryside countryside country country- side was three feet deep in hail haul Cows and men surprised in the open had their skulls shattered and thousands of acres of crops were destroyed
