Show To the e Students o of the a University o of Utah As is quite generally known at our rally held at the theatre Friday November 13 there was considerable damage done to the building and furnishings The greatest vandalism I am sure was committed by visitors from the Colorado university If my conclusions are correct they are are the ones who mutilated the backs of twe twelve ve theatre chairs in the balcony 1 I have written ritten a letter to Graduate Manager Walter Franklin at the Colorado university asking him to make an investigation The a above ove however is no excuse for the hoodlum tactics of a certain group on this s campus In attempting to crash the gate at atthe atthe atthe the theatre this group knocked the doorman off his feet and continued continued continued contin contin- their assault on policemen who were called by the manager Also the thc panic doors on the north side of the theatre were broken open in inan inan inan an an attempt to gain entrance necessitating the purchase of expensive hardware Following is the dollars and cents cost to the student body as a whole for the childish antics of a mere handful of students One fire axe stolen 1100 Twelve T seats repaired 2400 Panic bolts and labor 1 1300 One curtain torn To Total tal co cost st st. 5 The cost itself is of little importance But when the good effects of an artistic high class rally can be lessened by such a mob there is something wrong Why should students receive a ablack ablack ablack black e eye eve e in the ey eyes s of the city because of the actions of such such sucha a a small group 1 People in town like everyone else remember the bad and forget the good The only way we can obliterate such disgraces is isby isby isby by each student on the campus realizing his individual responsibility not riot to tolerate such practices Dont Don't smilingly agree with such things when in your heart you know w you dont Stand up and say That isn't college spirit Such called so-called rah-rah rah spirit is merely a guise for giving vent to primitive instincts plain vandalism College spirit is something far bigger and better and means the pulling together r as a whole in a manner becoming ladies anc and and- gentlemen Signed EARL L.
