Show Fire Saturday Wrecks Home Of Leon Theobald Fire Saturday at 9 a. m. wrecked wreck-ed the home in Delta of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Theobald. Origin of the fire is unknown, but it swept thru the house rapidly leaving wreckage wreck-age in its wake. Mrs. Theobald and two young sons, Lynn and Dean, were in the house at the time, and Mr. Theobald Theo-bald had left earlier for the post-office, post-office, where he is employed. Lynn the older boy, first saw the fire and ran to tell his mother. The Delta volunteer fire dept. was summoned at once, and Mrs. Theobald attempted to get a call through to Mr. Theobald. But the fire and smoke were filling the home, so she gathered up the little boys and ran outside. She made a trip back in to try and save something, some-thing, but by then the ceiling was afire, so much so that her hair was singed, so she retreated outside. out-side. One thing in particular she longed long-ed to have and that was a box of pictures of her children as babies. bab-ies. This was saved for her, and although singed around the edges, the pictures were intact. Loss in the fire was estimated at $4000, possibly more. The family were le'ft with clothing they wore at the time. All the rest was burned burn-ed or soaked in smoke. Furniture was seared by fire. In the kitchen flames ruined the electric stove, refrigerator, automatic washer and ironer, and kitchen cabinets. Mr. Theobald carried insurance, but not enough to cover the damage dam-age done. |
