STAIR HAZARDS Falls lead the list of home acci-dents, and a large number of such falls that result in death, or in temporary or permanent disability, take place on stairs. Leaving ob-jects on the stairs to be carried up or down, and inadequate lighting; are major causes of stairway tumbles. Leaving objects on the stairs is a pernicious habit that should be taboo in every home. The tripper, over-toy-s or cleaning materials left at the top or bottom of the stairs is fortunate if he suffers nothing worse than a skinned elbow that can be taken care of with a touch of antiseptic and an adhesive bandage, i.e., one of those ready-to-us- e dressings that has the gauze pad already affixed to the adhesive tape. He is just as likely to end up with a broken arm or leg. Stairways should have double-actio- n switches at the top and bottom so that the light can be turned on before starting up or down, and turned off afterward. Again it is only good luck if anti-septic and a ready-mad- e adhesive bandage are all that are called for, as the result of a fall on badly lighted stairs. Few such accidents have even the grim element of humor pro-vided by the insurance claimant who reported that, believing he had reached the bottom of a dark base-ment stairs, he raised his head and struck a rafter. Thinking he had been attacked by an intruder, he struck out with his fists, hitting a post and breaking several bones in his right hand. Mrs. Vida A. Waldron from Los. Angeles, is spending this week in Fillmore with her mother, Mrs. Agnes Anderson. Tuesday they vis- - ited in Delta, calling on old ends and neighbors. She went on from there to Grand canyon, where she has been employed for the sum-mer, and will the BAC this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Black and family are now making their home in Salt Lake City.
