Show Mrs. Emma A. Day, Oasis Matron, Buried Tuesday Mrs. Emma Marie Anderson Day died Friday evening, at 9:15, at her home in Oasis, at the age of 58. years, following a lengthy illness. ill-ness. Mrs. Dav had lived in Oasis 56 years of her life, and for the past 36 years she had maintained the mercantile business established establish-ed by her husband, Oda J. Day. Mr. Day died over 20 years ago, and i Mrs. Day had carried on in the store, handling the business her-I her-I self, until the last few years, when her health became poor, and her sons assisted her. She was born March 8, 1889, at Provo, a daughter of Nels and Trina Marie Madsen Anderson. Her parents par-ents moved to Oasis in 1891, and her home has been there since. She was married to Oda J. Day in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 2, 1909. Mrs. Day was always active in civic and church works until her health prohibited it. She had worked work-ed in the Mutual, Primary and Relief Re-lief Society in her ward andi had served in various capacities and on committee on many welfare projects. pro-jects. She had assisted in Red Cross work both in World War I and World Wor-ld War II. Two of her sons were in the service during the last war. Surviving are four chilrden, a daughter, Mrs. Edna Ide, of Price, Utah and three sons, Leo Day and Donald Day of Oasis, and Gilbert E. Day, of Delta. There are also surviving 6 grandchildren, one brother, bro-ther, Peter M. Anderson, of Oasis, ' and two sisters, Mrs. Christine Am- toft, of Provo, and Mrs. Minnie Nuz-Iman, Nuz-Iman, of Salt Lake City. I Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 1 p. m., in the Oasis Ward, by Peter H. Peterson, bishop. bish-op. Burial was in the cemetery at Oasis, under the direction of L. N. Nickle arid sons mortuary. Funeral services were conducted in the Oasis ward chapel Tuesday Tues-day at 1 p. m. by Lawrence Cropper, Crop-per, of the Oasis ward bishopric. The opening music was a duet, "In the Garden", by Evelyn Hawley and La Veda Bishop, accompanied by Inga Peterson. Patriarch- Charles Char-les R. Woodbury offered the opening open-ing prayer, followed by a musical duet by Helen and Calvin Skeem, "Whispering Hope". Speakers were Alma Christensen, Bishop Peter H. Peterson, and Bishop Sid Ottley, from Salt Lake City, who paid final tribute to Mrs. Day, their friend and neighbor of many years. A vocal solo was given giv-en by Erma Cropper, "That Wonderful Won-derful Mother of Mine", accompanied accompan-ied by Roma Ekins, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Western sang "God Understands". Un-derstands". The closing prayer was offered by Kelly Hawley. Burial was in the Oasis cemetery", under the direction of L. N. Nickle and sons mortuary, and the grave was dedicated by J. Val Styler. |
