Show SNOW SOW ACADEMY I 1 aites T E S s some one made the following fo lowing remark the other day if you want to see industry go to the carpentry department of the snow academy indeed it is a pleasing sight to behold between thirty and forty young men with planes saws and other tools in their hands working as if they anxious to complete a certain amount of work in a it given length of time such is the condition in this department but there are other attractive features secretaries ret aries cupboards tables and all kinds of furniture stand there as products of the labor of these young men ome of these students having been recently married are making most of their household furniture f while in school some have decided since taking tills this manual training to make carpentry their profession no one can visit this department when the boys are at work and not be ready to admit that the cultivation of the hand is as much a part of education as the development of the mind every young man ought to learn a trade the dressmaking class gave a very creditable social in the academy hall ball last friday ni night g bt it was presided over by the instructor petra anderson vocal solos were rendered by y tressie Larson Wil ford mcallis McAllist te erand r and hazel greaves and a variety of selections were furnished f ur by the 11 talking mae machine bine 9 recently purchased b by y prin ri n N E noyes ice lee cream and cake were served jokes were given games were played and all in all it i t was a very pleasant affair 2 most of the students and teachers were present to partake of the pleasures of the occasion occasion in trying to ascertain the number of students who intend to remain in school till the close in may mav the faculty are very pleased to lea learn that a large percentage of those in in attendance will remain and take the final examinations nearly all of those who have entered upon courses will remain to N get et credits and most of them intend to return again next year they all realize the advantage of completing their courses but some find it impossible and nd will probably enter the teaching profession this is indicative of general satisfaction the regular board meeting was held last saturday it was decided that the work on the new building should be contracted and as soon as architect watkins has the plans for plumb plumbing ing win wiring rig heating etc ready the work will bo be thrown open for forbids bids the board seem determined to prepare the building for the school in september the academy remembered bp wm T reid in memorial exercises on wednesday morning bishop reid has been a member of the board since its organization and it was therefore thought proper that these exercises be held in memory of his worthy labors among us the speakers were prest beal prest jenson and prof noyes his name will ever be held in rev derence by this institution |
