The total loss is astounding $1,416,375,845. The analysis covers 33 500,000 fires and the work involved making mak-ing a tabulated report was enormous. It took the constant time of 108 employes em-ployes with all the labor saving machinery machin-ery available as well as other assistance, to compile the results." This is one of the world's largest statistical statis-tical activities and bears testimony to the almost incredible extent of American carelessness in the matter of fire hazard. Think of the hole this burned up $1,416,375,845 would have made in our national debt or think of the constructive work it woul have done in building homes or irrigating our desert land. The National Board of Fire -Underwriters is doing a great work in bringing to the attention of the people in concrete of nn the tremendous losses suffered from fire each year. The people must cooperate cooper-ate if the loss is to be lessened. The child mjust be taught that the preventable pre-ventable fire is as serious offense as throwing bread into the sea, says Franklin Frank-lin H.
