Show GOES TO NOOSE1 WITHOUT SIGN OFJiAR CHICAGO. July ID. Hurry II. Ward, knowu as the "lone wolf" bandit, was hanged this morning ut the county jail at 7:20 o'clock. Ho paid tho death penalty tor the killing of Thomas Grancy and Rudolph Schwartz last fall when they attempted attempt-ed to top him after ho had robbed a hat store. Two others were wound ed by Ward at the same time. Ward went to his death without nny apparent emotion. When asked If he had anything to say, he replied that, ho was "ready to go." "I'd gtvo J5.000 for a gun." Ward told his guards last night. "You'd go some to keep me In here; I dont care how many doors and guards you have." Ward penned a letter to newspapers in which ho criticized old reform school methods, lauded Judgo Ben LIndsey ot the Denver boys court, paid a tribute to his mother and laud cd Chicago girls. Ward spent the day singing parodies on popular tongs for the entertainment of fellow prisoners. |
