Show n r m THE GREAT BUILDING MATERIAL Wood will always be the great building build-ing material for the homes of the masses in this nation. It is by far the cheapest material used, and if necessary, the average aver-age man can build his own wooden house. Wood has made it possible for .persons of most moderate means to own their own homes in this country. Lumber is today one of the leading commodities which have practically returned re-turned to pre-war cost, and if taxes and transportation charges caused bv the war were deducted, lumber in many instances in-stances would be selling at less than its pre-war ficure. The National Fire Protection Association, Associa-tion, in its annual report iust published, includes a summary of the activities of lumber manufacturers of the country in developing fire resistive construction, which, according to insurance reports, reduces the fire loss in properly built homes 50 per cent. Lumber is the West Coast's great labor-employing and tax-paying iridustrv. Conditions favorable to its successful operation are of vital importance to every ev-ery community. |
