Show CHICAGO GRAIN BOARD TO BE CLOSED UNLESS RULES ARE AMENDED Chicago, July 18. Joseph 'P. Griffin, Grif-fin, president of the board of trade, Issued a circular today in which he appealed to the membership to rally to the support of tho directors In a voto to bo taken tomorrow relative to amending tho rules so as to glvo tho board full power In suspension or enforcement of existing rules. Ono sentence caused much speculation. It follows: "Tho responsibility of keeping thU market placo open no longer rests with your board of directors, but rather the responsibility Is yours." It is learned that some members object to tho board's recent action fixing maximum grain prices and the proposition to amend the rules has solidified their opposition. Tho faction is said to bo headed by several largo trades who favor continuing operations of the board along tho lines prevailing before tho war. Their oppononts say that a return to unrestricted trading would result In governmental closing of tho board. |
