Threo hundred and fifty thousand dollars were paid out by underwriters on account of damage to fifteen valuablo old paintings paint-ings by flro and water whllo on the steamer "Mississippi" enrouto to Now York In October, 1914. Tho pictures Included a Reynolds, said to bo worth $150,000 , and a Cuyp valued nt $130,000. The caso camo up In tho courts hero for art doalors to prove to the underwriters that tho pictures wero genuine. This they did to tho satisfaction of tho court and the caso was settled by the underwriters un-derwriters paying $350,000. A substantial sub-stantial salvago of about $200,000 has been effected. |
