Show BIOGRAPHY Lydla Lavotto Merkloy, daughter of William Moro and Orissa Angolla Bates Allred, was born Sept. 23, 1859, at Grantsvillo, Utah. At four years of age, sho moved with her parents to St. Charles, Bear 1 Lako county, Idaho, whero sho on-dur,eA on-dur,eA all tho hardships of early pioneer.ltfp. In 1876 sho was chosen as treasurer in the first organization organiza-tion of the Young Ladies' Retrench-men Retrench-men society (now known as tho Young Ladles' Mutual Improvement association) of tho St. Charles ward. Sho was also a faithful workor In tho Sunday school. Sho was married to Christopher Amos Merkley, May 24, 1877. In tho year 1886, her husband waa called Into the mission field, and during dur-ing hlfl absence she was left to cara for a family of fivo small children. I In 1807 tho family movod to Star Valloy, Wyoming, whero sho was a faithful worker in tho Relief society and was cho3on counselor to Sister Marget Jenson of tho Falrvlow ward. Thoy moved to Big Horn, Wyoming, Wyom-ing, in 1901, and December 8, sho was set apart as president of tho Otto ward Relief society. In 1906 tho family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, whero sho was chosen as president of tho Primary association of tho Kimball ward, which position sho held until March 6, 1909, when she waa set apart as president of tho Relief society. August 13, 1910, when tho ward was dlvldod, sho was retained as president of tho Rollef society of tho Wapello. In tho fall of 1915, Brothor and Sister Merkloy moved to Logan, Utah, whero they have both been activoly engagod In tomplo work until tho death of Sister Merkloy, April 24, 1917. Sho was always an active worker In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, doing much good wherever sho resided. Her parents were among the early members of tho church, both having known the Prophet Joseph Smith In tho early persecutions of tho church. Sister Merkley was tho mother of nlno children, flvo boys and four girls. Sho la survived by her husband hus-band and eight children, ono sister and threo brothers. The funoral was held In the Fifth ward of Logan, Utah, April 27, at which consoling words wore spoken to tho beroaved. |
