Show BAKER TELLS HOW , HE BROKE RECORD Edwin G. Baker, who recently broko tho coiist to coast moiorc)clo record, gives tho following account of his experiences. Mr. Baker sn)s: Whllo I arrUed in New York City at midnight may 14 clipping npprovhn- -ately nlno days from tho previous transcontinental record, according to my way of thinking, I really achieved j the fent four months before. What I mean by that is, thorough preparation nnd endless calculation preceding tho trip Is what brought mo through. First, I laid out my r6ute a matter of no small Importance In selecting roads and towns through which to pass. Then, having dono this, I enlisted en-listed tho cooperation of n weatliei' expert and together wo examined weather conditions over my chosen territory for ten years past. Analysis showed' that contrary to general opin ion, May was tho best month for me to undertake a coast t'o coast ride pn a motorcycle. So, relying on tho weather's wea-ther's past performances, I determined determin-ed to start In May, leaving San Diego May 3 nt 12 o'clock! Eastern time. Another factor, of course, was my mach'ine. I rode a 1914 seven horjie-powol- twin two-speed Indian with electric equipment and cradle spring frame"? In all the distance of 3497 mlleVi'had no mechanical' difficulties1 whatever, and I encountered all ' the different road Conditions known'J jto trareiV' ' -' -' ; " 'Four mountain ranges were negbtia-tc"d? negbtia-tc"d? Aftine point at the northern end of Arizona I climbed from '200 feet belbwWa level to an altitude of 947 feet into tho mountain snows. Ifwhs In this mountain work that tho two-speed two-speed "showed Its supreme qualities. My brake power, too, In making the j preclp'itous descent of tho winding mountain trails, never failed mo for i a moment. If it had, I might not bo j nblo now to tell this story. Total time for the trip was 11 days, 12 hours and 10 minutes, during which I took only forty-six hours sleep about four hours per day. Average mileage per day was 301. I took along on extra electric light bulb, expecting to need it with such hard riding. But I arrived in New York with tho original bulb still in Us- socket and burning brightly. My batteries wero still in flno condition and needed no recharging or attention during tho rldo. In my estimation It was tho cradle i spring framo above all that contributed contrib-uted to my auccoss. It absorbed all road shocks 'and vibrations anduthla. of 'courso, saved all my strength'tand besltfei enabled me to makenevtjed. oVfciHbe roughost.road'.1 tfvJ V., j ' Constipation causes headache, nausea, nau-sea, dlzilntss, languor, heart palpitation. palpita-tion.
