Show LAST SPIKE DRIVEN ON CANADIAN ROAD Vancouver, 11. C. April 8. -The last splko on the Grand Trunk Pacific Paci-fic Transcontinental railway was driven driv-en at noon today near tho Nechaco river, nt Fort Fraser, U. C, '-20 miles east of Prince Ilupert. Last night th track laying ?ang on the cast and west ends of construction construc-tion left a half mllo gap and th's morning two crews raced for ti:o middle. President Chamberlain v;as not present, but flvo special cars from Edmonton with railway othclals and guests, Including representatives of tho Edmonton board of trade and many officials were at the scene. Moving pictures were taken of tho track laying race. Chairman Smith-ers Smith-ers will drlvo the golden spike In August, when tho long railway will bo finished and ready for operation. The Grand Trunk main Una now stretches from Portland. Maine, to Prlnco Ilupert, D. C. A lino of steam-ers steam-ers gives Prlnco Ilupert connection with Vancouver and Puget sound.. A branch south from Fort George; D. C, now under construction will permit per-mit tfio operation of trains to Van-1 Van-1 couver. |
