The ambassador mado it clear that American missions and schools would continue to bo protected by Ottoman law although American citizens would loso tholr extra territorial rights In civil and judicial cases. Tho capitulation which had been abrogated, abrogat-ed, ho said, would not affect tho ex-Istcnco ex-Istcnco ot the missions which had been recognized previously by Turkish Turk-ish law. Tho ambassador said ho would Issue a statement later Interpreting Inter-preting Turkey's action. As Turkey's notification was ot a general character without specifying particular treaties, officials had not been sure ot the extent of the action. |
