Contracts for more acreage of beets In Cache Valley during the season of 1914 are being signed by tho farmers of the valley than ln any previous season ln the history of the beet Industry In-dustry In' Utah. This Is tho statement state-ment made yesterday at the ofllce of the field superintendent of tho Amalgamated Amal-gamated Sugar Company ln Logan. The farmers of the valley havo a very friendly disposition toward tho sugar Interests It appears, and there probably Is a good reason for It. In" other beet growing states outsldo of "Utah, there has been a material reduction re-duction ln the price to bo -payed for beets this season. This reduction Tanges all the way from 25 cents per ton ln Nebraska; 42 cents per ton In Colorado, to 75 cents per ton In California. There Is no reduction in the price of beets by the Amalgamated Amalgama-ted Sugar Company Interests. Reduction In Price In reference to the reductions made ln the price of sugar we aro glvnlg here a number of quotations from the current Issue of, Sugar, the leading magazlno devoted to the agriculture and manufacture of sugar: Huntington Beach, Cal., Jan. 23 Conditions during the month havo befn favorable to the preparation of the seed bed and germination of the seed. Beet contracting at 75 cents a ton less than last year has made good progress and a satisfactory acreage acre-age Is expected. A considerable acreage already has been planted. There has been a plentiful rainfall and crop prospects at this ,t!mo aro good. v Bay City, Mich., Jan. 24. Tho factory fac-tory of tho West Bay City Sugar Company is soliciting acreage at tho reduced prices. , Scottsbluff, Neb., Jan. 24. The 1914 boet contract, carrying a reduction reduc-tion of about 50 cents per ton ln the price to bo paid for beets, was offered offer-ed to the growers on January 17, and during the first week more than 12,-000 12,-000 acres were signed up for the present pres-ent year. Part of the reduction mentioned men-tioned above li to be borne by the hand labor, as the jjavpient'for hand work has been reduced from $20 per 'acre to $18 per acre, plus a bonus ot 25 cents for each ton In excess ot 12 tons per acre.
