Show 4 B THE FARMER AND BEETS As an illustration of what the beet sugar su-gar industry means to the west and how deeply the farmer is interested in its successful development the following figures fig-ures from one company well-illustrate: In addition to the figures shown by the Great Western ,there is the American 'Beet Sugar, the Utah Idaho, the Amalgamated, Amalga-mated, the Holly aijd several other companies, com-panies, all with probably the same proportionate pro-portionate increase. The total which will be paid farmers for sugar beets in the states of Colorado, Utah, Idaho, California, Washington and Nebraska will undoubtedly run well over $100,000,000. The total acreage of beets cont facted for by the Great Western Sugar company in Colorado alone now amounts to about 170,000 acres, compared with 96,000 .icres last year. Just how much additional ac-'rqage ac-'rqage will be offered cannot be stated at this time. The two conspicuous thought0 brought out by these figuresis the large cash revenue rev-enue to thq agricultural territory of north eastern Colorado, the general industrial impetus inspired thereby in contrast to 'the apathy in the general industrial activity ac-tivity of our country at the present time. The revenue from 170,000 acres of boets averaging twelve tons per acre at $10 per ton, to the farmers of northeastevri Colorado Col-orado will amount to $20,400,000. This is quite a contrast to the harvested acreage of 96,000 acres in this same territory k t year. Since commercial activity i', universally uni-versally regarded as the one grand specific specif-ic antidote for Bolshevism, the beet sugar industry of the United States promises to be an important contributor to the re-establishment re-establishment of American industrial standards. This additional acreage will - require thousands of extra laborers. This in turn means increased business for many other lines of industry. The beet sugar industry indus-try is helping solve employment problems for returning soldiers as out of the J70 men enlisted from the Great Western company, 130 have been honoably discharged dis-charged and all are back on the job and .the proportion holds with other compari-' 3 ru.jLa muvfrwut &iJWWiiiiThiitdtfir - - li.il, if mr -ipn up.'
