Show The Agricultural College The Republican County Platform declares for a separate sep-arate Board of Control for the Utah Agricultural College. Col-lege. We have been asked why this is necessary, and why the matter is contiually kept before the people. Our reply re-ply is that it is not necessary if the College is to be administered admin-istered through a joint Board of Control,, but if it is to be administered separate and distinct as it now is, it is necessary, for this reason. Two years ago a bill was introduced intro-duced in the legislature placing the College under one board with the University and High Schools of the State. This bill had the support of the Superintendent of Public Pub-lic Instruction, and was vigorously favored by Chairman Greenwood of the House Committee on Education. Representative Rep-resentative Cardon of Cache County approved the plan, came to Logan and called a number of citizens to meet at the Commercial Club and there told them that the plan had been agreed upon, and that it would pass, and that he favored it. That little meeting was the beginning of strenuous opposition from both Democrats and Republicans Republi-cans from this little berg that did not cease until the nefarious ne-farious bill was, sent to the rocks. Now, it is against a duplication of such efforta that the Republicans are opposed op-posed to, and that they propose to stick opposed to. There is always some fellow ready to get behind just such a bill, I and unless our representatives are on their guard the first thing they know they will be hoodwinked. The Republicans Re-publicans have never been hoodwinked on this important matter and propose that they never shall. That is why i- they keep it green in their platform. |
