Show Judge Call Is Sustained and Cache CbuhJfy's Bolsheviki . .' Administration 'Gets .. tt , - ''esm-.' Solar 'PfejcaS.' ... ., in i ii The notorious "Cache County salary, case has been.de-cided.' been.de-cided.' .The Supreme 'Court -fUtrTHs 'decision July 10th. The, announcement ( appeared In Thursday morning's dailies', and. the Salt Lake eyenhtg papers of the samfc date. Of 'course it was wired to !' Journal over its .special Wirt, but somehow, the big dllly failed to record .tte decision, de-cision, thus proving itsetfrecmnt in the matter of giving; the news to its readers. IThedtcision'may have been such a 'shock to that impudent 'atitfct that brazenly insults judges of its own political household, that it was not able to get it through its macHint; without special oiling and manoeuvering, and at this lati date it is evident its readers read-ers will not.tfe advised through its. columns, as the "Big Daily" will not want to be put Jn the role of publishing an almanac. . ; j, ,v- t ' With this decision it is pmumed the case will drop, unless un-less the insolent Jourhalcoatiquesits disrespectful course by hurling insults at the Supreme Court, is still successful in making "goats" out of -theifour official targets, and starts a movement to appeal it to the Supreme Court of the United States. While .wefialize there is a mighty preponderance pre-ponderance of wisdom cooped, up in the Journal office of more Or less shades and degrees of questionable reliability, reliabil-ity, yet we are safe in savingthet the knock out has been delivered, and from the cold- fact that there, is no othei alternative the "count has been taken." It will be interesting to thfc citizens of Cache countj fn lrnnw that Aftrirnev "Ktr T). Triarripr And asanrifttpf put the case up to the 'Court in an entirely different dif-ferent way from that in -which jit was handled by the , County Commissioners. Mr; Thatcher totally evaded the fact that the officials resigned, the' salaries were raised, and' the sam. officials apboiAted t the advanced. salaries. salar-ies. -He simply claime's vested lrt! the Commls giomrirtdiaetiM mfJsUw;aT Tnaximiira. , The action tf the Commiseioners apparently apparent-ly savored too much' of Bolshevikism to be aired before such a dignified body as 'our Supreme-Court, and the claim ,of .plenary powers at-will on the part of the Commissioners Com-missioners up to, a prescribed limit, was so raw that it invited a suggestion of constitutional prohibition from the Justice who wrote the opinon. After reading the opinion one is constrained to admire Mr. Thatcher's courage, cour-age, !but is overwhelmed wittaadiffererit 'feeling at his judgment. Mr. Thatcher, without attempting, to advise the appelants as to results, simply made the best of a bad job that was apparently thrust .upon him. As a matter of fact, there has been but one side to this case from the beginning. It was so .utterly void of good sense and Judgment that even a child in the kindergar ten ought to have seen the final result. The four officials offi-cials involved should have headed in long ago, and it is evident they would have done so had they not have been led on by selfish interests. .It is too bad that they should have permitted themselves to be led around, ' apparently apparent-ly asit were with rings in their noses, by such an unscrupulous un-scrupulous sheet as the democratic organ. That paper acquiesced in the childish and unheard of action of the commissioners, insulted Judge Call by insinuating that his decision was not "authoritative" and beyond the question of a doubt was the most potent factor in taking the case to the 'Supreme Court. Just one word from that paper would have caused the Commissioners to reJ trace their steps twenty-four hours after they had indulged in-dulged in their child's play. Just one word would have caused the four officials to get in good after they had gotten in bad. Just one word of commendation from the Journal on; Judge Call's ruling would have kept the case from the Supreme Court, but that word was not forthcoming. ,On the other hand the "Big Daily" selfish-, ly forsook the cause of the people, and championed a cause that has brought Cache County into disrepute from St George, north into Idaho. Such are the fortunes of those who forsake the people" fight for the wrong, and i insult capable and honest men. i It is now. given out that the four officials will .vacate their offices August 1st. Since they have previously i said that it was not for themselves, but for their depu- ties that they were acting, thus parading in the role of philanthropists, it will be clearly in order for them to t step down and' out so that thedeputies can be appointed in their places. It goes without saying that the deputies will work for the legal salaries. But all citizens, will hone th'at the'bovs will not nursue this child's nlav furth er. They tumbled all over themselves for the nominations. nomina-tions. They shouted themselves hoarse asking the people peo-ple to vote for them, and accepted the verdict of the people. peo-ple. Wisdom would now dictate that they play square with the people and go through with their' jobs. Of course they have done wrong, but they can come'nearer righting the wrongs by sticking on the jobs. than they can by throwing their little dishes together and angri$ marching out. Stick boys! Be game! ( Nobody likes a quitter!, ' M The Republican congratulates Mr. Cronquist and his 4 attorneys, and we likewise take a small measure of com- Jy mendation for ourselves. Some unthinkingly have crit- icised Mr. Cronquist, but all such criticism must fall from C the fact that Mr. Cronquist is right. One good District Aj Judge and five good Supreme. Judges have given his "M course the stamp of approval. From his course there is no authoritative dissent. He and his followers, likewise ; this paper, have stood for right, for law and order, and : have stood against any warping or bending of the law, J that would permit of a looting of the public treasury. Our advice to the County Commissioners ,the selfish un- wise democratic organ, the four misguided officials, and i i all others.affiliattd with this unholy alliance is to repent '. and do it quickly. It is hard to fight against the right, f. ' and as long as selfish interests and misguided men battle I ' for the wrong, patriotic and honest men must fight for, ,- ! the right. .. . ,; 4 , J |
