Show Cache County Republican Platform. The Republicans of Cache County in convention assembled, re-affirm their devotion to the Republican party, and its policies and principles, and indorse the principles and policies of the recent Republican State and Congressional platforms. We commend and endorse the Republican slogan, "Stand by the War," which means to stand by the President Presi-dent and by every official, high or low, measured by the thoroughness with which that public official stands by the war; which means to stand by the government, by the country, by our allies and against our enemies, which means to stand for WAR SAVING and WAR GIVING for the FOURTH LIBERTY LOAN and for our brave soldiers and heroes in France who through their serivce and sacrifice are fast making victory and peace possible. We declare that there never has been a time since the administration of , the immortal Lincoln when that for which the Republican Party has stood has been so vindicated, vindi-cated, and when the needs of the hour demonstrate so clearly that Republican politics should not be adjourned. We join in a message of cheer and hearty encouragement encourage-ment to all men .and women wearing the United States uniform and particularly those in the service from Cache County. We are proud of them and glory in their splendid splen-did achievements. We again re-affirm our support of the Republican doctrine of a protective tariff. We belie.ve a tariff necessary neces-sary to relieve the financial burden now resting heavily upon our people. We are unalterably opposed to theDem-ocartic theDem-ocartic doctrine of raising revenue by direct taxation only. We believe that the .foreigner who comes into our home market is not entitled to all of the same protection as our own home laborer. We commend thp suonort the Republicans have given the President in the r-t'oecutipn of the war. While he h?s been powerless to marsuall the support of the leaders of his own party, the Republicans have stood firm and have loyally upheld his hand inllefiance of democratic leadership in the passage of the-Jeelaration of war and of the selective draft law.' "Pk" - We point with pride to theuntiring efforts and effective effec-tive support the President and Nation has received at the hands of Senator Reed Smoot of Utah. While Utah's democratic Senator has been running across country putting put-ting up political fences and while Utah's two representatives representa-tives in Congress have been junketing in Europe Senator Smoot has been at his post, of duty. We commend the candidacy of our fellow townsman, Hon. A. E. Boweil, for Judge of the Supreme Court to the careful consideration of the peple. Never before in the history of the state has our county received such signal honor from either party. . We likewise commend the candidacy of Weber County's Coun-ty's splendid citizen, Hon. Wm. H. Wattis for Congress, to the careful consideration of our people. A man of affairs af-fairs who personally did not want the position, after being be-ing drafted patriotically acquisced in the decision of the convention. We denounce on behalf of the overburdened taxpayer taxpay-er the wasteful and extravagant present state administration adminis-tration and the continuous increase in taxes resulting therefrom. In this connection we hereby call upon the Governor to make an accounting of the $25,000 given to him by the last legislature upon his promise to return to the state treasury $100 for every dollar expended. We pledge the legislative and county ticket we have this day nominated to work to the end that the financial burden of the people shall be reduced to a minimum and the conduct of our public affairs placed upon a sound and conservative basis. We unqualifiedly denounce the demoralizing practice prac-tice which it is said has crept into the present state executive exec-utive administration of requiring as preliminary to appointment ap-pointment the filing of a written resignation of blank date by the proposed appointee. We denounce such practice prac-tice as destructive of political and. official manhood and independent public service' We favor the ratification of the proposed amendments, amend-ments, to tho state and federal constitutions prohibiting the manufacture and sale of i itoxicating liquors in the State of Utah and in the United States. We favor the abolishment of the office of District Attorney, and call attention to the increased cost and lost efficiency under the present system in the prosecution of criminal cases. Under the pre.-exit system a preliminary hearing is first conducted by n County Attorney, after which the case is tried by the District Attorney and if appealed is presented to the Supreme Court bv the Attorney At-torney General, all of. which results in extra work, extra costs and divided responsibility which should be entirely with the County Attorney. A bill abolishing this office was introduced in the last legislature but without any reason given therefor, was lost . We believe that the judiciary of our state should be taken out of .politics and that all judicial candidates should be selected for their fitness and legal ability and 'not on account of party affiliation, and to that end we . pledge our legislative nominees to support such legisla- - tion as will secure for the state of Utah the non-partisan 'HJ election of judges. ', We declare that the Agricultural College of Utah, . the School of the Common People, should remain a sep- arate entity, and we denounce all plans and schemes to 'V place it and other educational institutions under one Board of Control such as was attempted by the last leg- M islature and advocated by representatives from Cache county and we pledge our Legislative Nominees if elect- ed to work and vote against any and all attempts to amal- - gamate it with other institutions or to place it under the' HJ control of any other than a separate and distinct Board of Trustees. 'Hi We condemn the action of the present Democratic raj county administration in its attempt to evade the law, ? and thereby raipe salaries of favorite officials in def i- Wk ance of the will of the people. When hundreds of our local & patriots are serving their country at thetfront, facing the J k most dangerous foe the world has evergnown, ready to " m make the supreme sacrifice, and all parotic citizens are a making every possible sacrifice injffxler to support the iff- soldiers in battle, it ill becomese Democratic adminis- g tration of a great county to conspire with the Democratic f sheriff, who holds the exalted position of Chairman of M the draft board, a Democratic clerk, who is also a member ft of the draft "board, a Democratic Attorney and advis- I or, and a Democratic Treasurer, the custodian of the J funds of the people, to set aside the law and raise the cal- M aries of these four officials. Reflect upon the consistency H of these men in their convenient offices, drafting the boys j of the county at a salary of $30 per month and then filing , , fake resignations to illegally raise salaries of more than , three times in advance of tho boys that are making the II world safe for them to live in, and then blush for shame.
