A C drew drew wonderful crowds crowds last y year ar t to Its ts production on Oedipus Rex Ar Arwe Are we as as' as an an educational institution to show neither taste culture no nor Ideals In our public performances 1 If It we reach no higher than those who have not the advantages of a college education of what worth 1 Is Its training If It we never see the better things we will have no love Jove for them We are what we feed fee upon Perhaps Mr Editor you were unfortunate to have seen The School for Scandal Friday night Two hundred students trailed in late during the entire first act so the audience had difficulty in finding finding find find- ing out what the play was about These students trailed trailed out out with no consideration for audience or play No play can stand such discourteous ous treatment This same trouble L was was al slog evident ld I S Saturday night but that night we had a more gen general gels gels' eral theater going public who not notwithstanding noT notwithstanding withstanding the fact they were were cheated ut of the first act act were were v very very 7 enthusiastic i Th The cu curtain curtain l calls the applause the spontaneous spontaneous ous laughter were all we have ever had The audience audience enjoyed th the play Immensely immensely Thank you for your kind words the cast May MayI to the director dIrector- and I here take occasion to publicly thank my players N No football basket basketball baIl c or r track track team ev ever r put pui in as i many any hours ever worked harder ever ever received mor more merciless merci merci- less grilling than than an t these these e s students u did in order order to to do their their best best for Utah I was was deligh delighted d with the work of all a better group of men They would win hon honor r from any institution not not that tI the women were were not good but usually they dare are stronger stronger Inthe Inthe in inthe the plays This This time lime the the men l held eld their own own I 1 I appreciated d th their lr service service ser ser- service vice for their for th their lr fellow tellow students as aswell aswell well weIl as their thell excellent perform ances May I also thank Miss Cassidy for the scenes scenes We should feel very proud that we are able to tomake tomake tomake make and design our own back back- grounds This is a very necessary part of a a play as necessary as acting and a very thankless Job Mr Nelson must not be left out His fine professional training and experience in London and New NewYork NewYork NewYork York as well wel as his understanding of the play play play-he he saw performances of It in both capitals made capitals made him himot of ot the the gr greatest value He lie Ie worked with me double shift ever since the op opening ning of ot the new quarter and the play would have suffered much without his aid ald Yours truly in the service of ot the University MAUD M MAY Y BABCOCK |
