Show Plowing by Dynamite. At Pendleton, Ore., ami on several farms In the eastern part of tho state of Washington, dynamite Is used to break up tho "hard pan" stratum Just underneath tho surface. Good soil and moisture aro under the "hard pan." In tho sngebrush and alkali regions this stratum of "hardpan" will not let tho molsturo come to tho surface, nor can tree roots and alfalfa roots reach the moisture. So the surfaco Is dry alkali, tho mother of sagebrush and nothing olso. Tho dynamiters bellevo that by smashing this barren und rebellious stratum they can make tho moisture come up und the roots go down.
