Show Gold on Reserve. Much Excitement at Vernal Over Appearance of Yellow Stuff. Vernal, Utah, Aug. 25 -A repeort reached here late this afternoon from White Hocks to the effect that a wonderfully rich strlKc has been made In the Uintah mountains about fifteen fif-teen miles northof White Rocks. Dr. Albert UJornson, a well-known and highly-respected physician of Vernal, brought In tho news. Dr. BJornson says he learned of tho strike from Mr. Carter, Industral leader at the Indian schools at White Hocks, and ho believes be-lieves the report to be well founded. Die strike Is said to consist of a ledge of white quartz two feet wide on the surface and showing free gold In large quantities. Assays said to have been made on the scene, Indicated that the surface cropplngs carry " In free gold to the ton. Dr, BJornson says he saw four men, heavily armed, headed head-ed for the scene of the discovery and learned that twenty-six others had gone into the mountains ahead of them for the purpose of guarding the Hnd. The point where the gold Is reported to have been found Is within the recently created (orcst reserve, and, therefore, the ledge Is subject to location. The surrounding sur-rounding country Is extremely rough In character and In places Is said to be almost Inaccessible. Who the parties are who made the find Is not known, but the opinion prevails that hey are agents of the Haven Mining company. Although the report only reached here a short time ago and has not been generally circulated, considerable excitement Is manifested. Old timers are Inclined Inclin-ed to credit the report of the rind, for the reason that Indians are reported to have brought gold from that locality local-ity on several occasions in years past, and the country has been looked upon as a possible gold-producing region. Many Colorado miners now here arc preparing to leave for the scene of tho reported strike, and If any Information Informa-tion is received In coullrmatlon of the tlnil there will be a wild stampede to the scene. |
