Show Fourteen Inch Apples. Carl Shaub Grows Them That Big and Will Grow 'Em Bigger. Tiik Rki'viimcan Is pleased to acknowledge the iccelpt of a crate of apples from Mr. Carl Shaub's orchard In tho Fifth ward of this city. In this crate are some specimens of the "Woolf River" apple that measure fourteen inches In circumference. They arc a luscious red,and In looks are boyond compare. Some of the Ben Davis variety weigh very nearly a pound, and all arc as sound as a dollar. Mr. Shaub is an enthusiastic orchard-1st, orchard-1st, has made a specialty of winter apples only and has 300 trees. The orchard is about six years old and by careful attention is pioducing goodly quantities of excellent fruit. Mr. Schaub says he keeps down all weeds, plows his orchard, and sprays, Ho has no pear blight and none of the dlillcultles duo to worms. lie says that only tho best pays and all that is necessary to enablo ovcrv orchardlst to havo the best Is to glvo a little of the proper attention at the right time |
