Show MARK TWAIN IN A HAZE. His Manager Tells of Effects of a London Lon-don Foq. Mnrk Twain's former lecture manager mana-ger tells this story of an entertainment entertain-ment given by tho humorist In London during a heavy fog: "One night ho Queen's concert rooms were like a smokehouse, and I saw from my en air In the royal box a shadowy drcss-i.nat, supported by a pair ot shadowy trousers, trou-sers, girdled by the faint halo of tho Ineffectual footlights. A voice was In the air. but it was difficult to locate It with any decree of certainty. Tho apparently headless trunk of the lecturer lec-turer told what ho know of our follow-savages, follow-savages, tho Sandwich islanders; and at Intervals out of tho depths nscended tho mil filed murmur of an audience Invisible In-visible to the naked eye. Murk began his lecture on this occasion with a delicate allusion to tho weather, and said: "Perhaps you can't see mo, but I am here!' " |
